I’ve always loved a dress styled over pants. I guess it started in the 80s with the popular mini skirt attached to leggings (apparently they go by skeggings now?!!), of which I had many. What I love about the modern day version though, which is less sporty and junior, is that it can make a look both masculine and feminine. I love that it is a bit unexpected. And from the street to the Oscar red carpet, it’s a look that can be both casually cool or formally chic.
But besides being a fashion statement, it can also be a very practical way of dressing when transitioning between seasons, when it’s not quite warm enough to go bare-legged, but you refuse to put on your tights one.more.time! Skinny jeans, tailored, cropped pants or even the new kick flare silhouette makes this trend easy to master. If you are a little more adventurous, try a dress with a wide leg pant or a flare jean – just stick with a dress that is simple, like a slip dress, or try wearing a belt over it if it doesn’t have a defined/cinched waist. Below are some of my favorite spring dresses that can be worn with pants now (some pant options too!), but will be just as pretty in a couple of months when worn with nothing but summer sandals and a tan!
