FALLing for the 70s

October 23, 2018

So, I hate the cold (which you guys know because I already can’t stop talking about it!).  But I have this thing with coats.  I can’t stop buying them!  I am always afraid of being cold and so it makes sense that I would want multiple coats to protect myself from the elements.  But if I’m being honest, I think the real reason I love them so much is for aesthetic reasons.  There is literally a coat style for every occasion, and when it’s cold out, it’s the first thing you see on someone!  They say you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, but you can totally judge a woman’s style or fashion mood of the day by her coat!  I’m especially taken (as is everyone else!) with teddy coats, specifically moto and bomber styles, and this Zara version is my latest acquisition.  I love 70s fashion so much and this style in particular totally channels that vibe.  Also, it is the perfect Fall coat: cropped, cozy and chic!  I love the idea of pairing it with 70s inspired knits, wide leg jeans or cords and my (still) favorite and on-trend white boots.  That’s how I’m styling my teddy biker jacket here (well, with skinny jeans instead of the flares), but I could also picture it thrown over a boho maxi with combat boots or with a ribbed turtleneck and white jeans.  I’ve broken down my look below with many subs for all the pieces I’m wearing and beyond!

There is still plenty of Fall left to be able to rock this lighter weight teddy style.  You can shop my exact coat here.  The market has certainly been flooded with teddy coats, but I’ve rounded up a few new options that I haven’t seen before below, as well as this one from Poshmark.

You can shop a similar long sleeve version of the Zara top I’m wearing in these photos here.  Or any of these knits would look equally 70s chic under your teddy moto!

Obviously skinny jeans are a no brainer and easy go-to pairing for the cropped teddy coat (and pretty much everything else in your closet!), but I love the idea of going full-on retro vibes and wearing it with cords in any and all iteration!

And then there are the white boots.  Probably my favorite wardrobe piece of the last year (really white shoes in general), I think they make such a fresh statement and are so much more versatile than you may think.  I just bought these Dolce Vita ones (which are now on sale!), but I’m really lusting after those Gianvito Rossis!!
